The Blaker Society
On 3 January, 1394/5, John Blakere de Schullegh (Shelley in Lower Beeding, Sussex)
conveyed by deed to William Haselyng of Cuckfield, the subfee of a croft of land
containing three acres, lying in the parish of Cuckfield.
A copy of this deed, printed in the book "Searches into the history of the family of
Blaker of Sussex," can be scanned and forwarded to you if you wish, but the deed
contains no other useful information other than describing the location of the land
and the several owners thereof.
........................
Please tell me what you mean by "a local historian"; from a Canadian point of view,
England, and Sussex, are spilling over with historians.
The Blaker book, written by W. C. Renshaw, barrister, and author of a number of
genealogy and family history books about families related to him by marriage or
otherwise, is available in a slightly fuzzy photocopy if you would like to see it, and of
course you would be entirely welcome to use its contents in any way you see fit.
Hopefully, and finally, to your benefit! Instead of this non profit charter you hold for
Blaker.....
Meantime, I will ask the President of the Sussex Family History Group
(a) to recommend a place to look for such an occurrence pre - 1400, including their
own growing data base; and (b) whether he/she can think of a person who might
have an idea; but (c) Ken Toll might very well be the man for whom we search;
hopefully he will see this email and reply.
Happy new year ? I worry about the munitions surrounding you. Would a family pet,
if you had one, be at risk ?
Yours gratefully,
